BATTLE LINES ARE DRAWN IN NEWPORT PAGNELL

Oyez! Oyez! Oyez!

The town of Newport Pagnell wishes it to be known that during the August Bank Holiday weekend it will be recreating its role in the English Civil War.

Full details will be revealed on Saturday (Jan 9) when a town crier, accompanied by Civil War soldiers and dignitaries including the High Sheriff of Buckinghamshire and the Mayors of Milton Keynes and Newport Pagnell, announces the event with a proclamation.

More than 500 re-enactors from the English Civil War Society will go to battle in the Bury Field during the summertime event, The Battle for Newport Pagnell.

Milton Keynes might be a so-called 'new city' incapable of even preserving a landmark cinema after just three decades, but by 'eck has the Pagnell seen some action, with centuries worth of history and secrets – indeed during the Civil War itself, when the town was seized by the Royalists.

Saturday's announcement will be made beneath the town clock at 11am.
