CELEBRATE PANCAKE DAY IN OLNEY, HOME OF THE FLIP-TASTIC RACE!

Flippin' eck, is it that time already?

Time to crack a few free range eggs and go make some pancakes.

And there's really no better place to celebrate Shrove Tuesday (Feb 9) than in Olney, which has hosted the world-famous pancake race in a tradition that dates all the way back to 1445!

The origins of the race have been lost in the mists of time, but it is known the pancakes were popular all those centuries ago – and received royal favour.

Although the start line isn't known, the race did finish at the Church door.

Though the tradition was briefly paused on occasion, it was never forgotten, and in 1948 the Vicar of Olney, the Rev Canon Collins discovered some old photographs dating to the 1920s and resurrected the race.

The race is only open to ladies who live in the town, but the 'art' of pancake eating is open to all!

Hot pancakes will be served from 9am in the Church Hall and Market Place, and entertainers and cooking demonstrations by Lesley Waters will be held in the same area from 10am and 10.30am respectively.

The race itself will begin at 11.55am outside The Olney Deli, with the prize giving following in Church Street at Midday.

A Shriving service will follow at 12.15pm in the parish church, and Lesley Waters will join two local chefs for a Ready, Steady, Olney cooking competition...and some pancake tossing fun!

If you are popping along, remember it's still chilly outside, so wrap up warm – 'batter' to be safe than sorry...
