COMEDY: DANE BAPTISTE IN TOTAL MK'S FUNNY SEAT

Take a ticket to see Dane Baptiste at word play tomorrow (Thursday, March 24) night, and you'll turn those frowns you are wearing, upside down.

Dane is bringing his Reasonable Doubts show to The Stables at Wavendon.

It's already been given a rather big thumbs up, mind you - at Edinburgh's Fringe Festival it was a sell-out success and had praise heaped on it.

'A comical genius' one reviewer declared.  But don't take their word for it - treat yourselves to an evening in the company of the man and his musings.

Dane went On Track with Total MK, sharing details of his best and worst stage moments...

When did you first think 'Comedy - that's the job for me'

The first time I saw a comedy show. Russell Peters, Leo Muhammad and D.L Hughley. Then after I heard Chris Rock, I was sold.

Which comedian first piqued your interest, and why?

Chris Rock. When he described his experiences and upbringing; and his world view, I wanted to be like him, which wasn't hard because I'm skinny too.

If you weren't working raising the smiles, what would you be working as?

I couldn't even tell you; but I'd be on a written warning by now.

What's the best heckle you've ever had?

A particularly vocal and rude member of a stag party referred to himself as 'Sperm Donor', but had spelt it 'Sperm Doner' on his Tshirt.

He put it on a plate.

Tell us about your worst gig so far

Brunel University. Half an auditorium of horny freshers and gang members wanting women and felt I was coming between them and their conquest.

Even the DJ wouldn't play intro music.

I believe the boos were so intense that they congealed into a gungey liquid like fun house. Boo-kake if you will

...and the one which still send shivers for all the right reasons?

Live at the Apollo. Going from eating ramen for dinner to that stage was an insane experience.

It's the holy grail of live performances and to fudge it up would be disaster.

But it went well and I got free ramen. Full circle.

Are there any subjects which are off limits?

The only ones that are off limits are the ones that are not funny.

Comedy will always be at somebody else's expense and is massively subjective. But I think that in the near future, comedy will become the honest politics that was a big part of the alternative comedy scene in the 80s.

I think people feel they're lied to by so many other institutions that they're craving the truth.

We've got to finish with a joke, so over to you - but keep it family friendly...anyone could read this!

What do gay horses eat? Haaaaay.
