Enjoy family fun at Soulbury Pump House Open day this weekend

The Canal & River Trusts’s £700,000 project to restore a two centuries-old canal pumping station in Soulbury is nearing completion.

On Saturday (May 18) , you are invited to join the Canal & River Trust and Living Archive MK for a fun open day.

Evidence suggests that being near water makes people more contented and relaxed, so what better place to spend some time with the family this weekend than by your local canal?

There’ll be lots to get involved with too:

> See the exhibition of beautiful photographs taken along the towpath as part of a competition run by the Canal & River Trust and Living Archive MK
> The launch of a walking trail app tracing the canal route between Soulbury and Fenny Stratford. Experts say just 30 minutes walking a day is enough to help you feel fitter. And with our fantastic trail to Fenny Stratford, you’ll be learning about canal history along the way!
> Chat with the volunteer lockkeepers and learn about their work on the canal
> Take part in a family activity trail suitable for all ages – looking out for wildlife, spotting features along the canal, learning more about life on the water in days gone by
> View an exhibition that tells you all about the restoration project itself
> A chance to meet the engineers and heritage apprentices who worked on the renovation and find out about the techniques used

The event will run between 11am and 5pm at Soulbury Pump House (across the canal from the Three Locks pub), Leighton Road, Stoke Hammond, Milton Keynes MK17 9DD
