GALLERY: LOUGHTON SCARECROW TRAIL - AND THE WINNERS ARE...

Loughton's Biennial Scarecrow Trail is proving a hit with everyone (well, save for those feathered sorts) just now, and there is still time to view more than 60 examples of crafted straw-folks with the event continuing to Saturday (July 11).

Each 'crow is based on a book, film or play and visitors will come face to face with Marilyn, Dorothy, Elvis and Minion or two!

Lance Fennell, an artist from Westbury Arts Centre teamed with Jonny Hill from MK Gallery and Claire Sapford from MK Art Centre to cast their eyes over the creations. Decisions made, they awarded winner rosettes to the following...

  1. Adults and Families Class: ‘The Tin Man’ in Crane Court.
  1. Crane Court also scooped the Group Prize by transforming their street into the Land of Oz. The judges loved the whole interpretation of their theme, ‘Follow the Yellow Brick Road’, including the sound effects. All six entries in 'Oz Court' received an award.
  1. Charities Class. This was won by Support for the Sick Newborn and their Parents for their ‘Chariots of Fire’.
  1. The Schools Class was taken by Loughton Manor First School, whose depiction of ‘The Scarecrows’ Wedding’ was judged to be "rustic and charming”.
  1. A special Children’s Prize was awarded to Gabriel Rowcroft-James' 'Toy Story’, that Gabriel made all by himself and for a small child, was thought "quite sophisticated".
  1. Finally, the prize for the best Business entry went, once again, to Loughton Manor Equestrian Centre for their "stunning" depiction of ‘War Horse’.
