Get to grips with Milton Keynes history at the 10th annual Archaeology Day this weekend

If you dig all things history then you’ll be happy to hear that the ever popular annual Archaeology Day at Milton Keynes Central Library is returning this week.
Celebrating its tenth year, this free event opens at 10am on Saturday (November 12) in the Central Library foyer and event space. Hold on to your hats and embrace your inner Indiana Jones’ with a wide range of activities, workshops and displays for juniors and adults alike.

This year the day will uncover talks on fascinating projects such as the ‘Excavation of an Anglo-Saxon Cemetery at Wolverton’, ‘Initial results from Oxford’s largest ever archaeological excavation’, and most exciting, a talk by Mark Knight on the ‘Must Farm revisited: The Bronze Age settlement’, which was shown on the BBC Four programme, ‘Britain’s Pompeii: A village lost in time’.

The Deputy Mayor, Cllr David Hopkins will also be opening the event and for the younger excavators there will be a hands-on archaeology workshop.

"Archaeology Day is always exciting and a great way to celebrate the truly fascinating history in and around Milton Keynes. It’s a fantastic day out for everyone," said Cllr Liz Gifford, Cabinet Member for Place.

You can also warm your bones at the ‘Archaeology & Building Conservation’ exhibition in the Discover MK section of the Central Library from 2 November to the 10 December.
