It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas at centre:mk

All eyes were on Queens Court at centre:mk on Friday as Milton Keynes came together to launch the festive season with the official Christmas light switch on at 5pm.

As the heart of the city’s launch into Christmas, centre:mk revealed its new lights scheme specially curated by renowned light designer James Glancy (who has created the light installations for Regent Street this year, as well previously for London’s Leicester Square and Birmingham).

The legendary designer brings his talents to Milton Keynes for the second year running, as part of centre:mk’s Christmas lights scheme. The installations feature 28 giant colourful presents, each spanning 4m2 and wrapped in 16m long gold ribbons.

Heart Four Counties Breakfast favourites Stuart Miles and Katy Hills began the celebrations by stepping up to the big red button to illuminate the thousands of lights in Queens Court and the centre’s impressive Christmas tree.

Following the main event, Santa Claus made his spectacular rooftop arrival to mark the start of the traditional parade up to his grotto in Middleton Hall; along the way lighting hundreds of thousands of tree lights.

The almost 20,000 sq ft, 25 minute fully interactive grotto experience features a double height carousel, traditional nativity scene and speciality craft cabins; providing the perfect backdrop to the extraordinary home of Santa.

Festive activities include arts and crafts group workshops, where children can enjoy making Christmas wreaths and decorating wooden angels. Following a visit from Santa and his elves, every child will receive a gift; creating the ultimate family day out.
