JAZZ UP YOUR WEEKEND WITH A VISIT TO THE CONSCIA FESTIVAL

The Bedford Jazz Festival returns this weekend (March 19 & 20), with 20 or so artists performing across the town, at venues including The Corn Exchange and The Quarry Theatre.

New York-based trumpeter and Blue Note artist Ambrose Akinmusire (below) and his quartet will headline at The Quarry Theatre on Saturday night (tickets £15).

It's a bit of a scoop too, this one; It is the last date on the group's European tour, and the sole English show.

Wrapping things up on the Sunday will be the perfect partnership of Jacqui Dankworth and Charlie Wood (above). Join the acclaimed singer-pianist team in the main auditorium at The Corn Exchange when they deliver their Just You, Just Me project, which celebrates some of the great musical partnerships of the 20th century.

Think Ray Charles & Betty Carter, Ella Fitzgerald & Louis Armstrong and George & Ira Gershwin and you know the riches that are ready to fall in exchange for the £19 ticket price.

Elsewhere, the weekend will also feature artists including The Karen Sharp Quartet, Empirical, The Frank Griffith Quartet, Stuart McCallum & Mike Walker, Pigfoot, The Peter Churchill Quartet, The Huw Warren Trio and The Kansas Smitty's House Band.

Additionally, the new inclusion of a community stage offers a platform to local musicians, and is a free entry staging.
