Milton Keynes boxer steps up training to follow in footsteps of Anthony Joshua

Last Friday, Milton Keynes’ up and coming boxer, Faraz Abid 19, fought at The Box Cup, Europe’s largest amateur boxing event at Alexandra Palace, London.

With over 300 contests taking part over the three days, and boxers from all over the UK and Europe, The Box Cup is the place of boxers to come. Faraz fought against the five times national champion, Shane Flavin who he lost to in the quarter finals in a split decision – his first loss in two years.

Now, Faraz is more determined than ever to make it to the top and follow in the footsteps of Anthony Joshua.

The 19 year old from Stony Stratford has had his training taken to the next level by the owner and team at the new Milton Keynes énergie Fitness gym that opened two months ago in Kiln Farm.

Owner of energie Milton Keynes and ex British Army Parachute Regiment boxer Rob Francis has taken Faraz on and is providing a bespoke strength and conditioning programme to help make Faraz punch more potent without gaining unnecessary weight.

He is also undergoing rigorous one hour PT sessions where the énergie Fitness team concentrate on developing Faraz’s speed and stamina, while equipping him with the mental robustness he will need against a tough opponent.

Having boxed for 8 years at the elite level of amateur boxing, Faraz, a born and bred Milton Keynes lad has had to be dedicated to his sport. Training three times a week at the prestigious London Hoddesden boxing club under one of the UKs best boxing coaches (formally England and GB national coach) he hasn’t lost in nearly two years, until now. But he’s determined it will make him stronger for it.

Our home grown talent hopes to turn professional within the next two years and aspires for nothing less than a world title.

“Training at énergie Fitness Gym has already resulted in improvements in my ability as a boxer. I feel stronger, sharper and mentally more prepared to take on the UKs toughest opponents”, said Faraz.

Rob says that “I am only too pleased to support young Faraz. I recognise real talent when I see it, and have been able to use our awesome new training space called The YARD to put him through his paces in a way that only the ex military know how”.
