Mud Squaddies wanted in Milton Keynes!

The Royal British Legion is hoping to recruit ‘Mud Squaddies’ to work together to walk, jog and crawl round its two-mile Muddy Mayhem course packed with muddy obstacles later this month.

The event, taking place on May 26 at Willen Lake, promises to be great fun for whole family and hopes to encourage people to get out, raise money and get muddy!

The course will have Mud Squaddies whizzing down mud slides and splashing through mud pits with music, food and exciting activities waiting at the finish line.

Claire Rowcliffe, director of fundraising at The Royal British Legion said: “This is our first ever Muddy Mayhem run and we challenge families in across the region to step up to the starting line, show their support for our Armed Forces community, and help make the event a success.”

“It’s important that we help nurture young peoples’ awareness and understanding of the Legion and what we do. What a fantastic way to achieve this – bringing families together, building bonds and working as a team.”

In the local area, money donated to The Royal British Legion has gone towards funding projects such as the Amicus Trust that provides housing to veterans that find themselves homeless, as well as programmes including Maybe Magazine that has allowed veterans to learn new media skills to improve their employability and pursue careers in other areas.

Lee Jarman, 36, from Milton Keynes served in the Army for seven years in the Royal Logistics Corp and was a participant in a Legion funded programme with Maybe magazine – based in Aylesbury.

He said of his support from the Legion: “The magazine project allowed me to develop new skills to broaden my employment prospects and as I suffer from PTSD, it also provided me with something to focus on and feel positive about, especially when I was working with fellow veterans.”

Registration is only £15 for adults and £10 for kids (aged 6-17), and The Legion is asking teams to raise £150 to support a vast array of vital support services for the Armed Forces community including family break centres.
