The annual Olney Pancake race proves flippin' good fun!

Mark Lancaster MP was in his home town of Olney for yet another “flipping fantastic” annual pancake race this morning (Tuesday).

Dating back to 1445, the 415 yard course is run by ladies who must have resided in Olney for at least three months.

The ladies are required to don the traditional costume of a 'housewife,' which includes a skirt, apron and head covering, not forgetting the obligatory frying pan containing a pancake.

The winner, on crossing the line, must toss her pancake and is then greeted by the verger with the traditional kiss of peace.

Mark said, “Another spectacular pancake race in glorious spring sunshine, such a great sense of community and there’s no better place to be than at the birthplace of this historic event!”
