THIS WEEK AT THE STABLES: WITH STRAY, ALEX HORNE, JARROD LAWSON & WATERLOO

It might be a slightly quieter week that follows for The Stables, but the Wavendon venue still has quality on the menu.

Funny fella Alex Horne will get things started on Thursday (July 2), bringing the smiles in his new show, Monsieur Butterfly.

The Foster Comedy Award nominated show, promises the press release, 'is stupidly ambitious, logistically problematic and potentially disastrous'

It is the show Alex has spent the past decade hoping to make, and with one flap of his wings (ever so delicate, they are) mayhem will prevail.

How could this show fail?  After all, Alex has spent more than £85 on eBay, made more than 10 trips to Wickes, and bought a second-hand van.

The Scotsman has seen this show, and its scribe was affected.

They advised you 'Take your kids, take your granddad, but get them to wee before they go in because once this show starts you quite simply could not bring yourself to leave.'

'Soul music's brightest rising star' is a term that has been pushed towards Jarrod Lawson more than once, and the blue-eyed soul-jazz genius will be displaying the reasons for the favourable words with a date at the venue on Friday (July 3).

Waterloo: The Best of Abba Tribute show out on Saturday evening (July 4) with a look back at the rise and rise of the Swedish pop sensation.

ABBA won the Eurovision Song Contest back in 1974, when it was hosted at the Brighton Dome and then dominated the charts with chart hit after another.

Today their legacy is etched with hundreds of millions of discs sitting in record collections around the world.

If you want to take a chance on the story behind the success that was Benny, Bjorn, Agnetha and Anni-Frid, tickets are £21.

Last up this week, MK's own Del Bromham, with his band Stray.

With more than four decades behind them, Stray have naturally accumulated a few rock n roll tales.

Not that we're about to share those in the here and now.

We will tell you that many years ago they were managed by Charlie Kray (brother of the infamous Kray Twins) and that they toured the UK with rock n roll legends Kiss.  But for anything else you need to take a ticket to the show.

Tuesday's show (July 7) will be swelled by brilliant blues boys Pearl Handled Revolver.

It's a tidy package, and is yours for just £14.50.  A reasonable price for some sterling sounds.
