Milton Keynes Gallery launches the Young Filmmaker of the Year 2016

MK Gallery has launched the MK Young Filmmaker of the Year 2016 competition, and they say you are never too young to get with the programme - the opportunity is open to youngsters aged between four and 19 years old.

The competition - celebrating the 30th anniversary of the MK Community Foundation - provides the opportunity to develop new, or showcase, existing work.

"As a young filmmaker based in Milton Keynes I have always wished for a stronger emphasis on proactive arts and film development in the local community, so this year we are pleased to announce MK Young Filmmaker of the Year, with kind support from the Milton Keynes Community Foundation and delivered in association with Independent Cinema MK,” says Carl Lewis, Project Assistant for MK Young Filmmaker.

To enter, you need to produce and submit a short film up to 3-minutes in length of any genre in response to the competition theme, to provide the opportunity to showcase new or existing work.

Entrants are asked to consider how they might respond creatively to the theme City Club - the name originally given to a national leisure complex planned for Central Milton Keynes in the 1970s.

Entrants can take part as individual filmmakers or as part of a school, after-school club or as a group submission.

The overall winners and a selection of entries will have their worked screened in the MK Gallery Project Space and across the new city at the end of the year with various prizes awarded in four age categories: 4 to 6 years, 7 to 10 years, 11 to 14 years and 15 to 19 years.

“As a local young artist based in Milton Keynes it is fantastic to have this support for local young people, to help find their passion for the creative industries; and I am so happy to be involved in helping to provide this opportunity to the local community!" Carl added.

Filmmaking Masterclasses for ages 16+ will be held at the Gallery on Friday 5 and Friday 19 August between 10am – 4pm.
Tickets are £5 and can be booked by visiting www.mkgallery.org
