Film: Bollywood gets a radical overhaul with action drama Akira

The archetypal stereotype of the traditional Bollywood film is set to undergo a radical overhaul in this September’s must-see action drama Akira’.

Releasing internationally on by Fox Star Studios worldwide, the high-octane film is here to set the screens ablaze on Friday (September 2nd).

AKIRA is a gripping action drama about a college girl Akira whose life spirals out of control when she becomes unwittingly involved in a crime. Now with a gang of corrupt police officers giving her the chase, and with no one to turn to, Akira will have to find in herself the courage and the power to stand up and face her enemies.

The film stars Bollywood heavy weight Sonakshi Sinha in the lead role. A far cry from her ‘Dabangg’ or ‘Lootera’ avatar, Sonakshi Sinha packs in more punches than you can possibly handle in Akira.

This is Sonakshi’s first fully-fledged action role where she will be seen performing hand to hand combat amongst other stunts. The film is titled Akira, which translates to ‘Graceful Strength’ in Sanskrit, is the name of Sonakshi Sinha’s character in the film.

Akira is co-written, produced and directed by AR Murugadoss who’s directorial credentials include blockbusters like ‘Ghajini’ and ‘Holiday’.

Sonakshi Sinha is joined by the critically acclaimed  Konkana Sen Sharma, whose achievements have established her as one of the leading actors of Indian cinema and of contemporary parallel cinema. She is known for her National award winning performance in ‘Omkara’ (2006) and ‘Life in a Metro’ (2007)

Completing the illustrious line-up is Bollywood’s maverick filmmaker Anurag Kashap in his acting debut as the antagonist in the film. He is often regarded as the face of an emerging new wave cinema for producing numerous independent films with newcomers.

Adding their heavyweight musical credentials is the eminent musical duo Vishal–Shekhar who won international recognition when they collaborated with British rock band The Vamps for the single "Beliya".

It is said, that when a deep injury is done to us, we can never recover until we forgive. With twists and turns, pouring emotions and edge-of-the-seat action, will this final battle between Akira and the law breakers end in finding Akira Justice?

AKIRA will air at Cineworld MK.  Check listings for details.
