Review by @reelreviewer

Ahh, the halcyon days of the East End of London in the 1960's! When trouble was always in the next street and one could leave one's front door open without fear of their home being ransacked.

Probably because the local louts had their ears nailed to a table whilst being shot at point blank range by the deranged 'neighbourhood watch' team, of which the Kray twins were the glamorous centre of.

As both twins, Tom Hardy is more than just brutalistic backbone, he is electrifying, terrifying and gripping, as well as being incredibly funny (the Kray's were known for their mordant humour, it seems).

The piece works best as a psychologically nuanced character study of these incredibly violent men and, despite the sense of sameness and some longueurs, writer/director Helgeland's almost-hagiography works graphically well.
