Synopsis
Troll Princess Poppy (Anna Kendrick) sets off with her callow friend Branch (Justin Timberlake) to rescue their troll friends who have been kidnapped by the Bergen’s, perpetually depressed monsters who can only experience happiness when they eat Trolls. Along the way and with many songs and dance numbers and much hair-flinging, Poppy and Branch help King Gristle of the Bergen’s (Christopher Mintz-Plasse) fall in love with dowdy chambermaid Bridget (Zooey Deschanel)
Review, by Jason Day
Bang on time for the half-term weekend is Dreamworks' latest animated spectacular which, if you like cheesy song and dance routines and vivid dayglo, fluorescent colour schemes, will certainly hit the mark.
It's an amusing, peppy and diverting way for an adult to spend an hour and a half - very silly but with just the right amount of 'smart' and cute charm to keep parents tapping their feet and smiling.
Whether the kids will be completely entertained is another matter. The core demographic for this film at the screening I attended (anyone from two to twelve years) seemed unmoved by the hijinks of the trolls or their beastly nemeses but, that said, they mostly remained glued to their seats.
