What do you get if you cross Charlie & the Chocolate Factory with Bugsy Malone?
‘Candy’ – the brand new book by Lavie Tidhar!
On Friday (August 3), Lavie will be making tracks to Waterstones at intu in Milton Keynes to meet young fans of his books.
In a city where candy is a crime and biscuits have been banned, Nelle Faulkner is a 12-year-old private detective on the lookout for her next client...
Private detective Nelle is desperate for her next case, so when the notorious candy gangster, Eddy De Menthe, asks for her help, Nelle is on the case.
Swept into a secret world of sweet smugglers and chocolate crooks, can Nelle and her friends find a way to have their cake and eat it? Or will they come to a sticky end...
Packed full of excellent puns and Lavie Tidhar’s trademark wit, this is a mystery detective novel with a difference with a glorious film- noir style narrative.
With quirky illustrations throughout by Mark Beech, Candy is a fantastically original debut with a fresh and engaging voice.
Lavie Tidhar is an Israeli born writer, working across multiple genres. He has lived in the United Kingdom and South Africa for long periods of time, as well as Laos and Vanuatu. He is a multiple award winner: his novel Osama won the 2012 World Fantasy Award for Best Novel, beating Stephen King's 11/22/63 and George R. R. Martin's A Dance with Dragons.
Tickets for this event for children aged around 8-12 are free, and there’ll be a goody bag with sweets/stickers etc provided by the publisher for each child who has a ticket.
A responsible adult has to stay in the store during the event (they are free to watch, or browse, or visit the in-store café if they wish!).
This is a great opportunity for children to meet an author, hear him read from his book and talk about writing it, and ask him any questions they wish. If anyone wants to buy the book, the author will sign it for them.
Tickets are available in store or by calling 01908 395384 during opening hours.
