When her best friend dies, Claire discovers the friend’s husband, David, is a cross dresser.
After that, the couple’s relationship drifts into unchartered territory, blurring the boundaries between gay/straight, masculine/feminine and possible sane/insane.
Conventional notions of gender are subverted as David turns into Virginia, as Claire calls her new friend.
French film The New Girlfriend is this week’s pick by the Open Film Society.
The 2014 film shows in the Open University Hub Theatre on Walton Hall Campus, on Wednesday (November 23) from 6.30pm.
