Critically acclaimed Ninebarrow to play Wolverton show this week

Ninebarrow will play St George the Martyr church in Wolverton on Friday night (May 25).

The date is part of an extensive UK tour by the duo, aka Jon Whitley and Jay LaBouchardiere, and will be a chance to hear music from new elpee The Waters and the Wild, which was released last month.

In a few short years the Dorset-based players have carved themselves a distinctive niche on the folk roots scene for their outstanding harmonies, delicate instrumentation and engaging songs.

Last year they were nominatred in the Horizon category for Best Emerging Artist at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards.

It was made all the more remarkable, as only a few months previously they had ditched their careers as a teacher and GP to make music their full-time profession.

The Waters and the Wild is their third opus, following their debut While the Blackthorn Burns and Releasing the Leaves.

The newbie displays their breathtaking vocal harmonies, through original songs mixed with innovative arrangements of folk standards, delivered with flawless musicianship.

A live session on Radio 2's folk show hasn't harmed them any either, with presenter Mark Radcliffe describing the delivery as 'immaculate'.

Doors open at 7pm on Friday, with doors from 7pm.
