Europe’s biggest rock and metal festival, Download, will turn a gesture of solidarity, love and respect into a tradition by reprising last year’s astonishing ‘Thumbs Up’ tribute to fallen brother Stephen Sutton at the Main Stage at 16:00 this Saturday (June 13).
Two years ago Download had the great pleasure of welcoming the inspirational Stephen to the festival. Stephen touched the heart of millions with the immense bravery, dignity, selflessness and love of life he constantly displayed in raising £4.5 million (and counting) for Teenage Cancer Trust after being diagnosed with terminal cancer in December 2012.
Download Festival was on Stephen’s ‘Bucket List’ and it was an honour and a privilege to have him as our guest in 2013, where he saw a host of his favourite bands, including his heroes Bullet For My Valentine.
Stephen passed away peacefully in his sleep on May 14th 2014.
In honour of his extraordinary charitable endeavours, and the amount of joy and hope he brought to people in the most spirited defiance of his own circumstances, Download proudly honoured Stephen’s memory by renaming the main stage the Stephen Sutton Stage for 2014 and organising the first Thumbs Up for Stephen.
