Her voice is as haunting as it is uplifting, so perhaps it isn't so surprising to learn that the lady responsible for it spent time working as both a funeral and wedding singer.
But there is nothing obvious in the vocals of Josephine Foster, who can create a pretty whirl of sound, or a delicate delivery wracked by fragility.
The modern folk-singer with the remarkable vocals is currently on these shores for five shows in not-too-obvious places, and on Saturday night (May 7) the Colorado-originator will be live at MK Gallery.
A new album was added to her discography in February, so it's not too much of a stretch to imagine that Josephine will pull from the swell pile that is No More Lamps in the Morning at this show.
Tickets are on sale at £8 and support is coming from Peter Cuts Paul, whose debut album Into the Clown's Barrel is available now digitally.
Tickets for the show are £8 and doors open at 7.30pm.
