Hotly tipped quintet Franklin Lake released their new EP Supersonic today (June 29), ahead of their first UK tour.
Franklin Lake are all about the soulful harmonies, as plenty of people will have heard already - the guys have stage shared with Olly Murs, Union J and Wretch 32, and played to an audience of 70,000 at Old Trafford!
Milton Keynes' own Tom Marvin is one-fifth of FL, and Total MK tasked him with answering our On Track teasers...
The song that first awakened your musical senses
Lost - Michael Buble
The first time I ever recorded a song in a studio, I wanted to do this song.
I wanted to learn it inside and out so that I got it right.
I sat in my bedroom for hours listening to it over and over again.
From then on I have done the same with any song I've recorded!
I feel that if you're going to do something, you should do it properly. That's what I always try and do.
Physical or digital - how do you take your music?
I prefer to download music digitally. That way, I can listen to it on my phone wherever I go.
The first time you thought - 'Music, this is the job for me.'
It's weird to think of music as a job, because usually people don't like going to work.
But I would have to say it was at my first gig, when I first stepped on a stage after hearing the fans going crazy.
That was when I didn't want it to stop and wanted it to continue as a career.
Your best on stage memory...
At the last Soccer Six , we performed live at Charlton FC. Tay grabbed his football top from the side of the stage and told the crowd he was going to throw it into the loudest section.
From then on, I couldn't believe how loud the screams were. At points, I had to put my hands over my ears as the noise was so loud they were buzzing!
And the worst gig you've ever done
About three years ago I was in a different band, we performed at a small pub and I'm sure there were only about 10 people there. It was quite hard to get into it!
Which one song by another artist do you wish you had written
Candle in the Wind - Elton John
And one - by yourself - which holds special significance
There's a song we haven't released yet, that Tay, Jude and I have all written. I can't wait until people hear it!
If you could step into the shoes of another musician, living or dead, who would it be and what would you do?
I would probably pick Justin Timberlake. Not many people can sing, dance and act like he can.
A guy with loads of talent.
Are there any current musical influences you might look to?
I look up to Ed Sheeran massively. The songs he writes are incredible and he has worked so hard to be where he is now.
And any genre of music you simply can't stand?
I can put up with most genres to be honest.
But I've never been a massive fan of jazz or country, although I appreciate it.
Total MK has long supported your brothers' band, Hacktivist, but musically you are poles apart.
Do you have a healthy respect for each other's styles?
Ha! Me and Ben have always been really close and we support each other through everything.
I've even been to different countries to watch him perform.
He has been doing all this longer than me, so it's always good to pick up some advice as well.
And if the two of you were involved in a battle over the stereo, whose music would win out?
Ben may come across as a tough guy, but I know exactly how to get my way with him.
It would be my music playing on that stereo!
Finally, plug Supersonic for those who haven't yet heard it
It's a retro sound with a positive vibe!
