Forest Folk & Roots is now in its third year of sourcing top class tune-bringers to The College Arms Bar in Cranfield.
How time flies!
This month, just the same as every other, they've booked a corker - Paul Handyside.
Paul was singer-songwriter with eighties indie darlings Hurrah! who had releases on Kitchenware and Arista Records.
But that was then.
During the nineties he toured and recorded extensively with friend and labelmate Martin Stephenson and in 2001 formed alt-country group Bronze, who released a couple of albums.
Paul released his debut solo album Future's Dream in 2007, and another in Wayward Son in 2013.
With his third solo album Tide, Timber and Grain - which hit the shelves last year - his songwriting developed further to blend elements of folk, americana and country-pop.
Paul is a rootsy acoustic troubadour, an articulate craftsman who cares more about quality than the latest fashion and each tune is a delightful labour of love.
His songs are moving, intuitive and nostalgic, sincerely sung by a keen observer of human nature.
The more you hear, the more you’ll wonder why Paul Handyside doesn't sit at the top table with other elder statesmen of British songcraft such as Chris Difford, Billy Bragg, Robyn Hitchcock, Elvis Costello and more.
Paul will be accompanied by Rob Tickell on slide guitar and backing harmonies for the Cranfield date, with show support courtesy of Bedford’s Amy Mason.
A stalwart of the Bedford music scene Amy has been playing live for 15 years, delivering a wide variety of originals and covers with diverse influences ranging from Pink Floyd to The Levellers, and The Velvet Underground to Travis.
Venue doors open at 7.30pm on Friday (June 23) and the sounds go live from 8pm.
Tickets are priced £10 (£5 for students) and you get them here
