THIS WEEK AT THE STABLES...WITH JENNY ECLAIR, THEO JACKSON, MORGAN & WEST, BOO HEWARDINE, TOM BAXTER AND MORE...

Jenny Eclair will be explaining How To Be A Middle Aged Woman (Without Going Insane) at The Stables on Thursday evening (Oct 1), but tickets are a long time gone.

If you still want an Eclair fix the sharp-tongued lady has announced another date at the venue for Sunday, March 6. Don't leave it too long before securing yours or you'll be unlucky all over again.

On Stage 2, Latin Quarter singer-songwriter Steve Skaith is showing out solo, with his album Bare Bones, which strips down some of the band's older songs, letting them shine with just guitar, piano and voices.

LQ fans pay attention too – a new album from the band is coming in 2016.

Mostly Autumn rock up on Friday night (Oct 2), drawing on influences from the golden age of rock while also keeping things fresh by nudging ahead into the future with their creations.

'The best band you have never heard,' said one critic. Put that to rights this week...

On Stage 2, the Theo Jackson Band will be in control, sharing material from his debut album Shoeless and the Girl. His heart belongs to jazz, while his soul lies in music that crosses boundaries and genres, so expect a warm and quite wonderful delivery of sizzling swing.

Treat the kids, and yourselves, on Saturday (Oct 3) – take a ticket for a lunchtime show by Morgan & West (below) who are bringing their Utterly Spiffing Spectacular Magic Show for Kids to the Wavendon venue.

The time-travelling duo will be unloading another boxful of bafflement and impossibility, so take your seats and witness a mountain of mysterious magic, a hatful of hyper-reality and a truckful of tricks and tea.

Enjoy brainbusting illusion and good old-fashioned tomfoolery where magic and silliness abound.

Sounds ace, and they say it's perfect for all aged five years to 105.

Unfortunately, that means that Great, Great Aunt Alice – a youngster of 106 – will have to sit this one out though...!

Tickets are all gone for Fleetwood Bac's appearance in the evening, but you can try to buy for Sunday's (Oct 4) bash with Stars from The Commitments.

Cast members and musicians from the film will perform the songs that figured in the film and the soundtracks – Mustang Sally and Chain of Fools are definitely making the live set.

Charlie Dore and Boo Hewerdine (above) team up on Stage with rich songs, a powerful authenticity (we like the sound of that) and equally stirring vocals.

Between playing their songs – which incidentally, have been covered by artists including Tina Turner, George Harrison and Natalie Imbruglia – they'll captivate you with compelling stories.

Tom Baxter is back on Monday night (Oct 5).

After issuing a couple of albums to acclaim, Tom set out to 'rediscover his passion for the guitar and his love of songwriting,' and went from the wilds of Devon through the foothills of India and the mountains of Southern Spain and California.

The travel served him well though, as it helped to harvest The Uncarved Block – Part One, and he'll reveal tracks from that when he goes live after 8pm.

Stalwart rockers Wishbone Ash check in for their annual visit on Tuesday evening (Oct 6), and The Fresh Dixie Project command on Stage 2.

Their debut EP Dress Pretty, Dance Ugly gained radio play and the thumbs up from BBC 6 Music's Tom Robinson and BBC Radio 2's Jamie Cullum, and if you like accomplished cross-over jazz, they'll excite you too.

The venue wraps up the week with Cellist Matthew Barley on Wednesday evening (Oct 7) bringing music by Bach, Tavener, Britten and Sollima to the fore.

It's a typical week of musical fare for the Stables – 'typical' being varied, genre-crossing cool from the best of the new breed and some of the most accomplished platers on the scene.

And with added kids entertainment to boot.
