THIS WEEK AT THE STABLES: WITH THE BLOCKHEADS, THE SHIRES, JIMMY WEBB & MORE

Feast of Fiddles tickets are all gone for tonight (Friday), but Saturday (April 11) is still booking, and it's going to be a corker.

Jimmy Webb has influenced artists aplenty - from Billy Joel to John Mayer and Keith Urban to  Rumer.

He has also topped the country, disco and pop charts with a list of artists astounding in its diversity ans remains a trailblazer today, half a century after his first hit.

His songs have been recorded by Joe Cocker, Donna Summer, Art Garfunkel, Barbra Streisand, Frank Sinatra and Glen Campbell, who recorded one of our all-time great, Webb's Wichita Lineman.

Jimmy is the recipient of an Ivor Novello award, was the youngest inductee into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, and has received Grammy's for music, lyrics and orchestration.  In short, Jimmy is the man!

The Blockheads are back on Sunday night (April 12), with their always fulfilling blues-funk-rock fest.

Few men could have stepped in and taken the microphone following Ian Dury's death 15 years ago.  But Derek Hussey is one that could, and has.

Dury's best pal is a grand addition to the slick pile of players who are always exceptional.

You know the songs of old - Reasons to Be Cheerful, Hit Me with Your Rhythm Stick, What a Waste, Sex and Drugs and Rock and Roll and Sweet Gene Vincent, to name a handful.

But this isn't a band trading on past glories - recent releases prove that the Blocks are still on the money.

The Shires by Pip for Decca Records

Tickets to see Beds-Herts duo The Shires on Monday (April 13) are all sold-out, as expected.  There will be more from the duo on Total MK imminently, though.

Prog rock pioneers Renaissance pull up at the Wavendon venue on Tuesday (April 14) evening.

They rose from the ashes of The Yardbirds and are now four decades into a career spearheaded by the five octave voice of Annie Haslan.

That's not to say the band has always been a working unit - indeed they called time on their career back in the 1980's while Annie launched a solo career.

But in 2009 the bug bit again and the stage called, reuniting Annie with the songwriting skills of Michael Dunford.

Michael sadly passed away in 2012, but most recent album, Symphony of Light  is a testament to the melodies he infused into his work.

This date is the first on a UK tour for the band, and tickets are £25 & £27.50.

MPMG Annie

Last up at the venue this week it's 4 Parts Guitar featuring Giltrap, Etheridge, Carroll and Burley.

Solo, duo and quartet pieces will follow from the influential string-setters on Wednesday night (April 15).
