'Floodmobile' mobile demonstration comes to Milton Keynes next month

The flooding in this area over Christmas ruined the festive season for many. But what can be done in the future?

The 'floodmobile' mobile demonstration unit will visit Milton Keynes next month, to showcase different flood defence ideas for homes to reduce the impact of flooding.

Visitors will also be able to talk about Environment Agency grants that are available to help homeowners who experience flooding. The floodmobile has 50 ideas inside on how homeowners can prevent flooding.

The mobile demonstration will be visiting the following locations:

Tuesday 3rd August: Stoke Goldington, Stoke Goldington Village Hall, High Street, MK16 8NR, 10am – 4pm

Wednesday 4th August: Newport Pagnell Car park between Marsh End Road, Station Road and the High Street, 10am – 4pm

Thursday 5th August: Stony Stratford Market Square Car Park, 10am – 4pm

Friday 6th August: Woughton Community Council Car Park, The Local Centre, Garraways, Coffee Hall, Milton Keynes MK6 5EG, 10am – 4pm

Councillor Jane Carr, who represents Newport Pagnell South, has been fighting for flood education and prevention measures on the Council.

“During the Christmas floods I saw streets flood in less than an hour in Newport Pagnell," Jane said, "These residents desperately need our help, which is why I’ve been fighting for proper solutions to prevent future flooding across Milton Keynes, and I’m happy to have helped secure this educational event.”

Liberal Democrat Councillor Carr also successfully fought for a £15,000 amendment to the Council’s budget to help train and equip a network of volunteer flood wardens across Milton Keynes.

“Although dealing with flooding is the responsibility of multiple partners including the Environment Agency, Anglian Water and Milton Keynes Council, we want residents to be prepared," she added, "This mobile exhibition is a step in the right direction. I would strongly encourage residents to attend.”
