A new post of volunteer support and recruitment officer has been created to help Milton Keynes Museum meet the challenge of soaring visitor numbers and two new galleries.
Simon Cook joined the museum this month from English Heritage, where he worked for more than 14 years at sites including Kenilworth Castle, Audley End House and Wrest Park.
His role at the Museum will involve recruiting volunteers, overseeing a relevant training programme, and providing ongoing development and support for the site’s existing team of more than 200 committed volunteers.
He has already run two volunteering open days with more to come each month.
“There are a huge number of varied opportunities for people to be involved, whatever their interest and however much time they have available,” said Simon – who admits he was already a fan of the museum when he applied for the post.
“This new role appealed to me as after the visiting the museum with family and friends. I love what the museum stands for and the opportunity to work here to be part of the future of the museum was an opportunity not to be missed.”
