THREE CHEERS FOR THE MK BEER FESTIVAL

From today (March 13) visitors to four MK pubs will be able to shake their tastebuds awake with ten real ales from across the world available to sample.

The 17 day festival includes overseas beers sourced from brewers in Brazil, Canada, South Africa, New Zealand, USA, Spain, Ireland and Australia.

Fetching names include Wee Heavy and Spider Bite!

Each of the beers has been brewed using only British-grown hop varieties; a total of 24 different hop varieties are being featured amongst the festival beers, including established varieties (Fuggles and Goldings) and newer varieties (Boadicea and Jester).

Those pubs participating are Moon Under Water in Xscape, Avebury Boulevard, Wetherspoons in Midsummer Boulevard, Bouverie Square, The Secklow Hundred in Midsummer Boulevard and Lloyds No. 1 Bar in Savoy Crescent.

A selection of UK beers will also be offered, including Monty Python's Holy Grail, Play It Again Sam and Mojo.

The festival will feature seasonal and unusual beers, with many brewed for the first time exclusively for the event.

Michael Rogers, manager at Moon Under the Water, said: “This festival is the perfect opportunity to showcase the wonderful range of British-grown hop varieties and support British hop farmers.

It will give people the opportunity to enjoy a superb selection of UK and international beers, many of which have not been served in the pub before.

"The festival promises to be great fun and I am certain that my customers will enjoy themselves."

Beers will be priced at between £1.89 and £2.25 a pint, which is worth raising a glass to!
