Story of David Bowie's stylist told in new Milton Keynes musical

A cast of more than 30 local actors, dancers and musicians will tell the fascinating story of Bletchley Boy Freddie Burretti in the new musical, The Man Who Sewed The World.

Burretti wasn't just David Bowie’s close friend; he was also a key early 70’s Ziggy Stardust costume collaborator and stylist.

Armed with a befitting musical score, the play unfolds events leading up to the legendary 1972 BBC Top of the Pops, Starman broadcast. It will leave you in no doubt that Freddie Burretti was indeed the man who sewed the world.

Lee Scriven is responsible for piecing the story, and the musical, together:

He said: "According to the scriptures of rock, Freddie was the inspiration of rock’s finest and last ever truly iconic Starman. A Starman who wanted to come and meet us and blow all our minds, and succeeded via a television set on warm summer’s evening in 1972; David Bowie.

"Together they challenged British culture, fashion and a sceptical rock music industry and won. Perhaps more importantly, their shared resilience not to bow down to a 1970’s homophobic society provided a pathway for gay rights to be established as we know them today."

Lee added: It’s a beautiful true story about two beautiful people, and it’s a story that needs to be told. I grew up in Bletchley, the same town as Freddie Buretti did and it saddens me that Freddie’s impact and incredible talent has never been truly recognised. Hopefully this musical will help change that."

Performances of Burretti: The Man Who Sewed The World are being staged at the Chrysalis Theatre in Milton Keynes on May 16, 17 and 18.

Tickets are £15 and you can book yours here or call 0333 666 3366.
