The fabulous felines in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Cats are making a return to the new city from Monday (October 24) and we recommend getting your paws on tickets as soon as possible.
After several sell-out seasons at the London Palladium, the record-breaking production is stopping off in Milton Keynes as part of a new national tour. Fans will be able to relive the Cats experience, while newcomers to the must-see musical have the opportunity to discover for themselves why it has gone down in history as a purr-fect combination of timeless songs, inventive dancing and endearing verse.
Cats choreographer Dame Gillian Lynne is in no doubt that the world’s affection for the show will endure. After conceiving and convincingly delivering the concept back in the 80s as part of the original creative team, Gillian won worldwide acclaim for her part in bringing feline flair to the stage.
Gillian explained to Total MK’s Georgina Butler: “I think Cats is a wonderful show for people of all ages to see. The kids will definitely love it. After all, you have these talented performers cavorting around executing amazing movement and really singing beautifully – most other musicals do not have artists that sing and dance as exceptionally well as the Cats cast must. And there are dangerous tricks too. Just so much action and energy and life onstage.
"I really don’t see Cats ever ending. So many people return with their children, eager to share the show with them. I think it is the perfect show for anyone who wants to be entertained and enthralled.”
Cats sees a cast of captivating characters - including curious cat Rum Tum Tugger, clever conjurer cat Mister Mistoffelees, mystery cat Macavity, glamour cat Grizabella, old ginger tabby Skimbleshanks and flexible kitten Victoria - come out to dazzle us under the moonlight on the night of the Jellicle Ball. One by one, they tell their stories in the hope of being chosen to ascend to The Heaviside Layer and be reborn into a whole new Jellicle life.
The all-singing, all-dancing moggies will prowl into Milton Keynes Theatre from Monday until Saturday, October 29.
