Welsh National Opera return to Milton Keynes Theatre from Tuesday with a triple treat of opera delights spread across their five day stay.
But it's Puccini's Madam Butterfly that will prove particularly memorable this time around - WNO will host its 250th performance of the production during their stay here.
Derek Tilley has appeared in every performance, so who better to share the passion behind the work with Total MK?
What is so special about Madam Butterfly - why do you think audiences hold it in such high esteem?
It's such a masterpiece. It is a tragic love story and whilst this is not uncommon in opera, it also raises issues of race and cultural differences and in this way it remains very relevant today. It has the wonderful soaring melodies we associate with Puccini.
This production has run since 1978, which is testament to the timeless appeal of this wonderful production. If that wasn't enough it is beautifully sung and played by the soloists, chorus and orchestra of the Welsh National Opera.
The 250th production is quite some achievement! You've performed in nearly all the performances. What is so special about the work for you?
I have appeared onstage in all 250 performances of Madam Butterfly (the only one in the company now who has done so) as an actor, playing the role of servant/cook.
Although I've performed in over thirty different productions over the years, I think Madam Butterfly is my favourite, in part because it was my first and also because my brother appears in the show with along with me, and we have travelled together to many wonderful venues - all across the UK and to Germany, Hong Kong and Dubai.
Finally, sell the experience to those reading this who have never spent an evening watching opera.
Why should they take a seat for WNO at MK Theatre this time around?
Firstly, nothing compares to watching music or theatre productions live, it's the only way to truly experience the atmosphere and thrill of opera.
Madam Butterfly is a perfect first opera. It is full of wonderful music and recognisable tunes, and it has a story we can relate to - one that could happen today. It is incredibly moving and very exciting. It is not too long, making it the perfect introductory opera.
Also it's a chance to see my brother and I in what could be our last run of this extraordinary production.
