Being Italian and growing up in Australia has given Joe Avati lots of giggle inducing material.
In fact he has made a decidedly successful career by sharing anecdotes and telling stories. His spot-on comic delivery has made him the world's number one selling bilingual comedian.
The key to some of that success lies in the familiarity of the work: "My stories are the stories of my audience," he said.
"When I joke about having to take a day of school to make tomato sauce and having to get my Mom to write me a sick note to explain where I was, for example, it was the same experience everyone in the audience had.
"My audience not only relates, but together we can laugh about growing up Italian in an English-speaking country. It almost becomes a therapy session," he added.
Joe - who also holds the record for the fastest selling comedy show in Canada - will be live at The Venue on Friday (Sept 26) with support from Canadian-Italian Guido Grasso.
