Bruckner and bubbly with the Danesborough Chorus in the village of Woburn

Save the date and pack a picnic for an evening of music and feasting with the Danesborough Chorus, in the atmospheric setting of Woburn Church on Saturday (June 23).

The choir is performing Bruckner's Mass in F Minor, 'thundering, heavenly and sublime', inspired by the classical forms of Haydn and Mozart, yet with a bold, new vitality, which irritated conservative church circles in the early days.

Bruckner composed his Mass in 1868, then 'fine-tuned' it up to 1893, striving for musical perfection to express his devout religious faith.

It is generally recognised as one of the finest settings ever of sacred texts (even arch-rival Brahms confessed to being deeply moved when he attended a performance).

A quartet of outstanding professional soloists and the Milton Keynes City Orchestra join the choir for a programme which also includes Mendelssohn's melodic Italian Symphony.

Thrill at Bruckner's long, unfolding melodies and opulent harmonies in the favourable acoustic of Woburn Church and bring strawberries and bubbly to enjoy during our traditional extended interval on the lawns.

Tickets: £22 and £17 (reserved, central nave), £10 (unreserved, side aisles), under 18s £5.
