A unique charity walk is urging Milton Keynes residents to ‘step out and soak up’ the beauty of the countryside, the diversity of art and the strong transport links, past and present.
Participants will be walking MK to raise funds and awareness for MK Snap this October, and everyone is welcome to take part, regardless of fitness.
MK Snap is a locally based charity that offers professional support, training, education, life skills, work and opportunities for individuals aged 16 years and above, with learning difficulties.
“The idea behind Walk MK for MK Snap is to raise awareness and funds for MK Snap,” said organiser Lynn Mcbrearty.
“As part of MK Snap's goal is to bring Snap into the community, it seemed fitting to have an event that takes the community into areas that they may not know exist.”
Walker, Roger Pearce, 78, remembers riding the steam train that ran between Newport Pagnell and Wolverton.
Today, it’s known as the ‘Nobby Newport’ track, named after the engine that pulled the carriages. The railway route is part of the 15 mile MK Transport history walk which also visits the canal, the Aston Martin site and the old Iron Bridge.
Other walks are a five mile MK Amble also visiting the railway line, Great Linford and Tongwell; A 10 mile MK Art route visiting the Willen Lake, the artwork around Campbell Park and the canal, and a 20 mile MK Lakes route visiting 6 of the balancing lakes.
All four circular routes take place on Sunday, October 9, and start and finish in Newport Pagnell.
Registration closes on 2nd October 2016. The registration fee will help MK Snap provide professional support, training, education, life skills, work and opportunities for individuals aged 16+ with learning difficulties.
