‘The summit gained. Behold the proud alcove crowns it!
So wrote William Cowper in ‘The Task’ referring to the folly in the village of Weston Underwood, where he would rest on his walks and where he wrote many of his most famous poems whilst taking in the wonderful views of Olney and the surrounding countryside.
On Sunday (July 30) you are invited to meet at Olney's Cowper & Newton museum at 10am ready to head out on a leisurely and fact filled historical guided walk though Olney to Weston Underwood, taking in the sights along the way.
The walk is around six miles long, and host drinks and a slice of homemade cake will served to revive you at the Alcove. Tickets are £10.
