IN A LEAGUE OF HER OWN: HOLLY TO OPEN XSCAPE'S UNPLUGGED STAGE

Visitors to Xscape are being asked to go against the grain and leave Facebook and Twitter alone for a wee while as the activity hub hosts its Unplugged event.

And when you realise just how much of our time is spent sat staring at a screen or fiddling with our mobiles and tablets, you'll realise what a neat idea it is.

A recent survey of 6,000 UK parents by the website My Family Club found that the average parent with a smartphone uses it a whopping 240 times a day; that’s the equivalent of around four hours a day staring at a screen!

And The Telegraph says that 80% of secondary school age children in the UK now own a smartphone.

To remind us of what’s really important in life, Milton Keynes’ entertainment destination is asking families to go gadget free and enjoy some family fun activities to suit all ages - visitors can even enter the complex through a fun 'check-in point' where they'll be asked to switch off those time devouring devices!

In August, Xscape will be bringing some larger-than-life versions of some of our favourite apps to the centre - including a kamikaze catapult game and buccaneer battleships.

Ditch the device and enjoy the bigger picture!

There’s also free pop-up Ping Pong at Xscape for all-ages to enjoy thanks to Make a Difference; inspiring young people to make a difference to their lives and the lives of others.

MK based singer Holly Brewer (top) has been in the headlines this week, and will open the Xscape Unplugged stage next Friday (August 7) at 1pm.

Holly – who recently performed at the wedding of Mark and Michelle Wright - will be performing an acoustic set.

We’re really excited to have such an eclectic range events for families to enjoy this summer,” said Ross Jordan, general manager at Xscape MK.

Our Unplugged campaign is a chance for people to enjoy a ‘digital detox’ and take part in something new, either with one of our intriguing Unplugged activities or one of our exciting experiences such as snowboarding, skydiving or rock climbing!”
