MARY GAUTHIER, ROGER MCGUINN, CARRIE RODRIGUEZ AND 80S MANIA: ANOTHER BUSY WEEK FOR THE STABLES
Remember when big hair, big shoulder pads and big mobile phones were the way of the world?
On Friday evening (Oct 31) you get the opportunity to relive the era when 80s Mania arrives at The Stables.
This is your chance to get your wiggles on to music by Culture Club, Madonna, The Human League, Wham, Duran Duran and too many others to mention.
Bringing back the brilliance will be a cast of cool, but you've got to play your bit too - so let those horrendous 80s fashions loose once more.
Arrive early too - a disco road show will get you nicely warmed-up before the main event.
On Stage 2, MKs own Soul Urban Poet will lead the way. See http://www.totalmk.co.uk/single-launch-party-at-the-stables-for-soul-urban-poet/ for more on that date.
Former Byrds frontman Roger McGuinn is back on the road, and Stables bound on Saturday evening (Nov 1).
This show - one of a string of dates just now - will span classic tracks including Mr Tambourine Man and Turn, Turn, Turn, his Grammy nominated project, Treasures From the Folk Den and pickings from his back catalogue entire.
Mairearad Green and Anna Massie (below) take over on Stage 2.
The Scottish multi-instrumentalists grew up in the Highlands and share an innate understanding of Scottish culture and music.
"Playing in the duo is a real treat for both of us, and we really do love getting out and about to as many places as possible,"Anna said.
"Within larger bands you tend to have a more defined role - be that accompanist, melody player, or whatever - but with the duo, we swap those roles back and fore a good bit.
"Not only does that make it great fun for us, but a different and, moreover, enjoyable gig for audiences too."
Louisiana-native turned Nashville-resident Mary Gauthier arrives on Monday evening (Nov 3).
Mary is a lady who has lived an extraordinary life: A teenage runaway, she found her first shelter among addicts and drag queens, and struggled with drug addiction herself before becoming a chef, and then owner of three restaurants in Boston.
In 2001, she sold them, giving her the freedom she wanted to be come a full time songwriter.
And as you'd expect, there was no shortage of life experience from which to draw.
Praised by Bob Dylan and Tom Waits, and covered by Boy George, she is a exemplary artist who will deliver a suitably sensational show for you.
Do the members of Wishbone Ash ever take time out? The stalwart rockers - pioneers of twin-guitar rock nonetheless - are back at the Wolverton venue on Tuesday evening (Nov 4), and while they command in the Jim Marshall Auditorium, Stage 2 belongs to the Ollie Howell Quartet.
Ollie is a multi-award winning drummer, composer, bandleader and international recording artist.
If he can't 'hit' the right spot, no-one can...
Dave Koz is a shining superstar of the smooth jazz genre - and a nine times Grammy nominee.
The ace-saxophonist is a usual Stables sell-out, and its probable that Wednesday's show (Nov 5) will go the same way. Don't be a chancer, or you'll not be a dancer!
Last up this week, on Stage 2, Carrie Rodriguez will engage with her modern country take, and a voice that's soft, but driven by attitude.
Some of you might have caught Carrlie in the live a few years back when she toured alongside Chip 'Wild Thing' Taylor.
Ever the busy bee, Miss Rodriguez has delivered eight albums in as many years. Prolific or what?
