Mayor of Milton Keynes to host basic life support course for Cancer Centre Appeal

Milton Keynes Mayor Cllr Sam Crooks is stepping outside his comfort zone this month, to help raise funds for Milton Keynes Hospital Charity’s Cancer Centre Appeal.

On Thursday August 29 Cllr Crooks will be spending the day with ECG Training based at Bradwell Abbey.

He will spend the morning learning basic life support skills, before being ‘tested’ by assessing a training session in front of peers and local businesses in Milton Keynes.

The Mayor hopes people will sponsor him in the lead up to the event and of course, during the day.

He said: “As one of my chosen charities for this year, I’m delighted to be supporting the cancer centre appeal in this way. Basic life support is something all of us should know, but which I have never had the opportunity to learn. The challenge will be the test at the end, especially in front of members of the public.

"I’ll be looking for sponsorship, so if anyone would like to support me I’d encourage them to visit Virgin Money Giving and search for ‘The Mayor of Milton Keynes’ or use the link here.”

Jane Lambert, CEO of ECG Training, has been supporting the cancer centre appeal for the past 18 months. She said: “I’m so excited to be working with the Mayor of MK for the day, and not only teach him some essential life-saving skills, but to enable him to support a free CPR training session for the local community to attend.

"Increasing the chance of survival is close to my heart, and we’re delighted to be teaching CPR as well as supporting our local hospital charity. Let’s do it for MK!”

The hospital charity’s cancer centre appeal is raising funds to support the building of the new centre – a more spacious, bright and welcoming place for people undergoing treatment for cancer and their families.

As well as a chemotherapy area and information and support suite, the centre will feature a 24-bed inpatient ward, break out areas, a complementary therapy room, landscaped gardens and special artwork to create a calming and more comfortable environment.

It will transform cancer care for people in and around Milton Keynes.
