Move over Wurzel Gummidge - the Loughton Scarecrow Trail returns

Once upon a time in the lovely village of Loughton, there lived a huge family of seventy-nine scarecrows.

From wicked queens to beautiful maidens, from strange creatures to adventurous children, they were all taken from your favourite fairy tales and nursery rhymes.

Each lived in different parts of the village. Everyone who wanted to visit them needed a special map to help them find where the scarecrows lived, and each ‘crow told its own unique story.'

The 2017 Loughton Scarecrow Trail starts from the ancient church of All Saints’ on Saturday, June 10.

Guides for the trail can be bought from the church on Saturday 10 and Saturday 17 June from 10.00am – 5.00pm, Sunday 11 June from 11.00am – 5.00pm, and Wednesday 14 June from 12.00 noon – 2.00pm.

The guide will include a quiz for children, and a voting slip for the Visitors’ Choice Award – a chance to vote for your favourite scarecrow.

The trail celebrations include a Grand Raffle and a Silent Auction, which will both be hosted in the Church.

Bids for the Silent Auction can be made at any time during the Church opening hours and further details are available on the back of the Trail Guide.

The trail creates a fun opportunity to explore an old part of Milton Keynes that has grown and expanded with the city over the last 50 years and is now very much part of it.

The beautiful church of All Saints’, Loughton and its distinctive tower is one of the landmark buildings in this part of MK.

All proceeds from the trail will go to supporting the church which is looking forward to celebrating its 800th anniversary in 2018.
