REMEMBERING WARTIME BRITAIN AT MK MUSEUM

Milton Keynes Museum is a historical haven, but this weekend the Wolverton based centre will be concerning itself with a time in the not-too-distant past - with a Forties weekend. On Saturday and Sunday (August 30 & 31) visitors will be stepping back to wartime Great Britain - giving young folks a great introduction to the reality of life in the troubled times. Instead of stocking up on sweets and tasty bits, shopping during the difficult times was all about basics and rations - children visiting the museum's parade of real shops will be able to enjoy a realistic shopping trip from the era, using ration books as they go. Stony pub 2 copy Music, dance and food demonstrations will all supplement the event: "Helping young people understand the world their grandparents grew up in is a way of explaining why the world looks the way it does today," a spokesman at the museum explained. "But as well as connecting the generations it is also great fun." Special guests will be popping along too - some on foot, some airborne: See if you can spot wartime Prime Minister Winston Churchill on your wander around, and if the weather is fine on Sunday, remember to look up  - two Lancaster Bombers will be flying in for the event.
