Stony Words: Sands, Planes & Submarines: Leighton Buzzard in WW1

StonyWords delivers Sands, Planes & Submarines this coming Monday evening (January 28) - a look at Leighton Buzzard in WW1.

By the early years of the twentieth century, the market town of LB was at the centre of the most fashionable hunting scene in the country and already had industries which would suddenly become much more important.

While researching the more serious aspects of local life - and death - during WWI, members of the Leighton Buzzard Historical and Archaeological Society uncovered some surprising stories about the town and the surrounding villages.

All of this new information was published by The History Press in Sand, Planes and Submarines, at the end of 2018.

Delia Gleave, co-editor of the book, will be telling us about some of the unexpected effects of WWI on the home front and it’s more than likely that there will be a fair bit of laughter and a few songs among the stories

The event will be talking place in the Beechey Room (rear entrance) at York House Centre, 7.30pm-9pm.

Tickets are a mere £2.  Get yours direct from York House, on-line here or pay on the door.
Refreshments will be available, and copies of the book will be on sale.
