The Friends of St Lawrence Church work hard to raise the necessary finances to look after Broughton's historic old building, and since forming in 2013, the group has done a terrific job.
Now maintained, the church is regularly used for talks, concerts, open days and sometimes, services.
On Saturday (June 6), the church will play host to the annual Summer Concert, with funds raised going straight back into the care of the building, and specifically, its organ.
The friends have already raised enough cash to get the organ working again, but more is needed to prevent it falling back into disuse – so come on, take a ticket.
Those of you that do, will be privy to local choir Sands Cryers who will be singing music from the Renaissance, as might have been heard when the church's famous medieval paintings were fresh and bright!
“With a repertoire ranging from pieces written by composers such as Tallis and Byrd for the church, through Elizabethan madrigals to ballads sung by people in the taverns, no doubt some of this music was known to the people who came to Broughton Church 500 years ago,” say organisers.
Tickets are on sale at £8 (refreshments included), and the music will begin at 7.30pm.
