Talk: North Bucks RSPB welcome the Northamptonshire Barn Owl Project to Milton Keynes

The Northamptonshire Barn Owl project was setup in 1995 to conserve and increase the Barn Owl population in the county following a dramatic decline in the species.

Between 1932 and 1985 the population of barn owls declined by 82% from 250 to 48 breeding pairs and, at the start of the project, only nineteen of the sites within the current county boundary were still occupied.

After showing little signs of increase during the early stages, since 2000 there has been a steady rise in numbers peaking in 2007 when there were eighty-nine confirmed breeding pairs and an estimated total population of 100 -106 pairs.

At an RSPB North Bucks indoor meeting on Thursday (October 12), Paddy Jackson will talk about these beautiful birds and the success of this project.

The indoor meeting will take place at The Cruck Barn, City Discovery Centre, Bradwell Abbey.

Doors open at 7.15pm for a prompt start at 7.45pm. Free coffee and tea are provided during the interval.

RSPB members £3, all visitors welcome £4 and children £1.
