Tussles and trouble will be ahead at Milton Keynes Museum this weekend when the Vikings visit as part of the annual History Festival.
They will be armed and dangerous too – let battle commence!
They won't be alone either, as the hands-on hub presents almost two thousand years of living history across this weekend of May 12 & 13.
Make tracks to the Wolverton venue and you'll meet the Roman traders selling potions and jewellery, be able to interact with the Tudors (and if a trip to the dentist today makes you feel queasy, just wait until you meet the Tudor surgeon and his scary utensils), and a Civil War re-enactment group will recreate a dark part of our history that divided not just communities, but families too.
Archery was popular during Medieval times, and you'll be welcome to give the arrow sport a try yourselves, with support from the experts.
The museum will also be welcoming the British Redcoats, the Queen's Regiment 1714 in their splendid uniforms to show their manoeuvres.
You will be able to learn about life in the 18th century, and discover more about the military conflict of the Crimean war.
It promises to be a colourful, lively, engaging weekend walking you through the centuries and letting you get closer to our ancestors who were living, working, fighting and playing during key periods in this area's history.
Milton Keynes Museum takes history off the page and brings it to life at this fascinating, family-friendly event.
All the museum's usual attractions will be open too. You will be able to play parlour games, browse the street of shops, discover more about the history of communication and see the history of transport – complete with the tram that once took workers from Stony Stratford to Wolverton works.
If hunger bites, bite back with a visit to the Granary Cafe, with its affordable, tempting variety of hot and cold sandwiches and sweet treats, and the best cakes for miles around.
Standard admission prices apply – which will also give you FREE entry for the following 12 months when Gift Aid is given; adults £9, child £6, retired & unwaged £7.
A family ticket (admitting two adults and up to four children) is £26.
