Why Huw Jones is a Milton Keynes Marathon marvel!

Huw Jones is one of an elite club of just 46 people who have run the MK Marathon seven times … and now he’s preparing to run his eighth at the 2019 Rightmove MK Marathon Weekend.

“The Rightmove MK Marathon will mark my 60th marathon in total,” said Huw. “I live 25 minutes away from MK and, now I know the route, it’s nice to see landmarks that I haven’t seen for a year and reflect. It does feel like the MK Marathon looks after its runners a bit more, too.”

Huw has run four London Marathons, eight Snowdonia Marathons as well as marathons in the North Pole, New York, Berlin, Paris and Dublin, to name but a few.

His fastest ever time was three hours and 38 minutes, but he is usually around the four-hour mark and is happy with that.

He said: “I’m quite pragmatic – I put in as much work as I need to come in around the four-hour mark. I have a little girl and can’t run as much as I used to! But doing a marathon is a nice way to see a city and a different culture, and you’re always pleased when you’re finished. You get something from the race that you don’t get from training – a sense of camaraderie. You never see an angry runner!”

Huw is part of the Rightmove MK Marathon’s loyalty club, known as The Legends. To qualify, runners must have taken part in the Rightmove MK Marathon at least five times. There are 136 loyalty club members overall, but only 46 of these have run in every single marathon since the event began in 2012.

The Legends can access benefits including receiving Legends Medals as well as the usual finishers medal, getting exclusive use of the tactics room with complimentary refreshments, as well as a discount on the following year’s event. Plus, their name takes pride of place on the Rightmove MK Marathon website for all to see.

Huw said: “The discount on next year’s race is a nice benefit! I’d definitely encourage people to take part. I believe that anyone with the right mindset and a fair degree of training can run a marathon! Mindset has a much bigger impact than people think and once you’ve done a few, your mindset changes.”

This year’s Rightmove MK Marathon will start and finish at Stadium MK, with the route passing spectacular sites including Willen Lake, the historic Linford Manor, and Bradwell Windmill. The event has become so big that it will even have its own live concert in the Rightmove Race Village, as well as plenty of family activities.
