2018 marks 100 years since the end of the First World War and Wolverton Town Band is making a unique contribution to commemorating this major historical event
The daily playing of The Last Post
At 6pm each evening from Friday, 26 October to Saturday, 10 November a member of Wolverton Town Band will play The Last Post in The Square in Wolverton. Everyone is invited to attend and pay their respects.
Remembrance Sunday Parade
As usual, Wolverton Town Band will play at this year's Remembrance Sunday Parade on 11th November (in The Square in Wolverton from 10:30am) and one of its players will play The Last Post. To commemorate the centenary, the band will also play a programme of appropriate music after what will be a very special occasion.
Playing The Last Post - Battle’s Over
From 6pm that same evening, the band will play various pieces and The Last Post at Milton Keynes Museum, in a project involving brass bands from all over the British Isles in support of Battle’s Over, the nation’s tribute to the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War. This will be followed by the lighting of a beacon, one of over 1,000 Beacons of Light symbolising an end to the darkness of war and a return to the light of peace.
“Wolverton Town Band is proud to be taking part in the commemoration of the centenary of the ending of the First World War and to be paying respect to the sacrifices made by everyone involved: people like Albert French, a sixteen-year-old from Wolverton who was killed in action in 1916, just a week before his seventeenth birthday," said Musical Director, Jane Lloyd.
