Exhibition celebrates new public art commission for Milton Keynes

Milton Keynes Gallery presents Near Holme, Call Your Home Poetic in its Project Space this month.

This free exhibition explores and celebrates a new public art commission for Middleton, Milton Keynes.

In 2017 artist Bettina Furnée was commissioned to lead the project and began by inviting all residents of the Claridge Park area to meet with her and hear her ideas.

Participants were guided through a shared process to create their own poetic and personal house plaque, unique to their family but forming a collective language and theme with their neighbours and the surrounding community.

This exhibition invites you into the project as it nears completion, to see and hear the experiences of the residents through video, sound, images, interviews, and a critical text written by curator Fiona Boundy.

Speaking about the project Bettina said: “I am delighted to have worked so closely with residents in Claridge Park to create twenty poetic house names. These families are now the custodians of a collective artwork, which speaks of the new community itself”.

There will be a special In Conversation event with Bettina Furnée and Fiona Boundy this Thursday from 7pm.

This project was commissioned by MK Gallery on behalf of Broughton and Milton Keynes Village Parish Council and Milton Keynes Council.
