IT'S A PICTURE PERFECT FINISH FOR THE MAYOR!

Milton Keynes Library is currently hosting an exhibition of work by members of MK Society of Artists, entitled Picture Perfect.

And so it proved to be when acclaimed artist David Newens put MK Mayor, Cllr Keith McLean in the frame yesterday (Thursday, Nov 12).

Aside from being a member of the MKSoA, David is also an associate member of the prestigious Royal Society of Portrait Painters, and it's easy to see why when you check the results of his creativity at the canvas.

This stunning likeness of the Mayor took three hours.

In view of the limited time, I decided to do what is called a portrait study, rather than a fully developed painting taken out to the edges of the canvas,” David told Total MK.

I decided not to spend time on the chain of office, but to concentrate on the head.

Initially, I did not intend to do anything on the blazer, apart from indicating the shoulder line; but in the last five minutes decided to indicate some of the pink and grey stripes.”

The painting is now drying at leisure before being given a coat of retouching varnish and presented to Cllr McLean.
