THE LOST PEOPLE: EXHIBITION AT STANTONBURY GALLERY

From Monday (June 15) Stantonbury Campus will be hosting an exhibition of work by John Michael Taylor BA.

He says his work is about experimenting and taking risks, using the mediums of painting, drawing and sculpture to make his point.

"My art practice tackles the fragile nature of life.  Within this subject I have tackled things such as oppression, despair, mental health problems or issues and also life and death.

"I like my work to be kind of decoded or read by the spectator...so often I make interactive objects."

This new show is called The Lost People.

John came up with the idea for the work when he came across old photographs in an antique shop and got to thinking..

"I wondered about the people on them - who were they?  What were they like?  And ultimately, where are they now?  Are they totally lost?  Or have they gone somewhere and been reborn?

"So many questions that, deep down, we know will never be answered.  Life and death is one fixed constant thing that many artists throughout history have tackled, and has driven many an artist mad.  But you have to be a bit mad to become an artist!" he said.

The Lost People will be available to view at Stantonbury Gallery through to July 5.  Admission is free.
