Feather Trade come to Bedford Esquires this week

Following international festival dates and extensive regional touring in the USA, Athens, GA post-punk trio Feather Trade has emerged from their creative incubation with their first album, recorded with producer Matt Yelton (Pixies, Frank Black & The Catholics).

After meeting fellow producer Gareth Jones (Depeche Mode, Interpol, Einsturzende Neubauten) at one their festival shows, both Yelton and Jones stressed the band’s similarities to a number of UK bands in critical politik and lyrical content.

Finding an alliance with artists who speak of working class struggle in an era of the commodification of art, Feather Trade now embarks on their first full UK tour and will soon announce their forthcoming debut album The Sound of Broken Worlds.

Feather Trade in their own words: “Created or destroyed by crucial influence, each person’s world is a lifetime searching for meaning and reconstruction. They push through the strata – anger, grief, fear, shame, loss – fuelling the desire for absolution and certainty.

"Some find it in religion. Some find it in drugs. Some find it in sex. Feather Trade brought the flames to one another. We scream in the darkness, the echoes giving black shape in sound. A fight with cancer. Watching a loved one’s descent into schizophrenia. Losing it all to fire. The unceasing longing to seal the fissure of three broken words.”

Like seeing Bauhaus playing a set of Pixies covers – total energy, total darkness, total volume – and following previous tours with the likes of Ought, Deerhoof, Daniel Johnston, Florence and the Machine and the Maccabees, the band will play Bedford Esquires as special guests of Spear of Destiny on Saturday (September 14).

The Sound of Broken Worlds album will be officially released later this year. An exclusive and very limited advance run of the album will be available at the Esquires date.
